Historically, Barkath Group started off with a family store set up by the founder, my late father Allahyarham Haji Abu Backer in 1940. It was a very simple and humble sundry store namely Barkath Stores. As a cottage factory, Barkath Food started at my father’s residence situated at Macalister Road in Penang. In the earlier day we were only assisted by 10 workers.
The founder Allahyarham Haji Abu Backer Bin Mohd Hussain, was a visionary entrepreneur, he has expanded his business steadily, progressively and rapidly. Then the new beginning of the group shine when we obtained the rights to distribute HACKS in ASEAN region.
From a store involves in basic trading in 1940, Barkath Store has venture into food manufacturing whereby Barkath Foods Sdn Bhd was established in 1960. Barkath Foods Sdn Bhd involves in manufacturing of foods products such as pasta, baking products, sauce and many other dry food products. As at to date, we have about 30 items range of products.
The group has grown and keeps continuing expanding its business. We have to upkeep our position in the industry as to be competitive at all time. Knowing that, the group has always looking at the future in our business plan and part of it is this building.
The day 11 January 2011, at this same place we had a ground breaking ceremony. And today, I am proudly to announce that we have accomplished one of our missions to bring Barkath Group to a greater heights. We are now witnessing the symbol of our success, The Barkath Foods Sdn Bhd, newly factory which is located at the prime industry park in Seberang Jaya, Penang.
We have invested about RM12 million in this building which was built on a 3 acres land area. The factory has been equipped with the modern technologies equipments which are according to the international food industry standard and specifications. Therefore, I may say that we are capable to produce the high quality of products in order to be competitive in this industry. With this, I am confident that we are capable to meet up the demand of the local and international market such as ASEAN countries, Middle East and others regions. I am proud to say that Barkath Groups of Companies has been certified with HALAL certification, ISO and HACCP.
As at to date, we are at the final stage of discussion involves in franchising with the oversea food processing companies. InsyaAllah, soon all these will be materialized.
Barkath Foods factory is also a building house for Butterworth Depot which will cover the Northern Region distributions area such as Perlis, Kedah and Penang.
Our next mission in 2014 will be the completion of Barkath Co-Ro’s building extension and last but not least is HACKS new building at Bukit Minyak area in the year 2015, together with the conjunction of Barkath Groups of Companies 75th anniversary.
The year 2014 is only around the corner, I believe that with the blessing from Allah s.w.t. and together with strong support from family members, friends, loyal customers, dealers, consumers and not forgetting work forces of Barkath Group, we would be able to move forwards towards a greater challenge for a batter future of Barkath Group.
